Floating Life

Floating Life and Floating Dirt are my third and fourth books, documenting social phenomena that have been overlooked during China’s rapid economic development.

Preface

I went for an outing with my daughter in August 2018.She joyfully walked into a tunnel to be opened.

Having a view of a her back, I hurriedly took out my camera for a shot.

She was about to enter an elementary school after one week. I was rejorcing but worried as well.

Just like what this photo shows, her road ahead is seemingly flat with the fulfillment of brightness, yet danger may potentially pop out anywhere in face of the forthcoming vehicle flow.

I put this photo in the beginning to highlight, summarize, and implicate the floating life.

Since childhood, repression, grievance, tension, anxiety, reluctance, misery, and restlessness have been accompanying me like shadow which arise my awareness of the similarities among those who are struggling at the edge of destiny with a deep comprehension by reading their eyes. I took photos for those faces of deja vu to represent myself at a certain stage of life. Photography seems to be a medicine for healing by which we understand and connect in a flash.

The so-called life may be a leaf of small boat which floats and sinks for both you and me.

I can also help clean up the grammar of this passage if you want.
